If you’re on the market for a non-intrusive way to cure your snoring, an anti-snoring pillow can be a valid consideration. Who wouldn’t love something as simple and comfy as a pillow to fix such an annoying problem? This solution is an obvious win...but only if truly fixes snoring. So do anti-snoring pillows actually work?

    How they work

A variety of anti-snoring pillows are out there. Different brands have varying technologies and designs, but for the most part, these products share similar functionalities. According to MD Nayana Ambardekar, anti-snore pillows mainly aim to align the head and shoulders to better open airways while we sleep.

An over relaxed tongue and throat can mean muscles collapsing into the airway, restricting breathing, and thus causing snoring. This is especially prominent for people who rest on their back as gravity takes over and naturally pushes your tongue back towards your throat. Although a minor contributor, sleep position is a contributing factor to snoring, which is how stop snoring pillows work; they address the sleep position in hopes of addressing the snoring.

There are a few different types of anti-snore pillows:

    • Pillows to encourage side sleeping
    • Wedge pillows that encourage an elevated head
    • CPAP mask pillows that allow comfortable space for a CPAP
    • Realignment pillows to perfectly align the head and neck
    • Smart pillows that vibrate or alarms when snoring is detected

    Do they work?

Although anti-snoring pillows offer real and worthwhile solutions, they won’t be as effective if your snoring is related to sleep apnea, lifestyle factors, or physiological features. Anti-snoring pillows can be effective for a small percentage of snorers who snore infrequently and purely because of their sleeping position.

Although anti-snore pillows encourage a quieter night - they’re usually paired with other anti-snore products like a CPAP, breathing strips, or mouthpieces.

If you are a habitual snorer and/or suffer from sleep apnea, be sure to talk to your doctor about which solution will work best for you.
